 Zee TV (stylised as ZEE TV) is a Hindi general entertainment pay television channel in India. It was launched on 2 October 1992, as the first privately owned TV channel in the country.[1][2] It is owned by Zee Entertainment Enterprises. Zee TV launched in the UK in March 1995 after Zee TV bought TV Asia[3][4] and in August 1998, Zee TV launched in the USA.

 Zee TV was launched on 2 October 1992,[6] as the flagship channel of the Zee Telefilms Ltd.[7] It began full-day broadcasts in 1993.[8] It is the first private TV channel in India. On 10 January 2007, Zee Telefilms Ltd was renamed into the Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL.).[citation needed]

In 2013, Zee TV, along with its sister channels, underwent a branding overhaul. On 15 October 2017, coinciding Zee's twenty-five year silver jubilee, all of its channels were rebranded.[citation needed]

On 30 May 2021, Zee TV planned to revamp its look and air four new television series, but because of the COVID-19 pandemic in India, it was postponed.

 The channel mostly airs content intended for family and coming-of-age audiences ranging from comedy to drama.[11] It also aired reality shows such as En Vidya Nokki,[12] Sa Re Ga Ma Pa,[13] I Can Do That,[14] India's Best Cinestars Ki Khoj,[15] and Dance India Dance.

 Zee Rishtey Awards Since 2007, the channel has presented an annual award show, the Zee Rishtey Awards, to performers on its show based on popularity.[17] Nominations for the awards are declared by the channel. The winners are selected through voting done via online and through SMS.

The channel has been involved in several controversies and has broadcast fabricated news stories on multiple occasions.[4] The channel has been subjected to an ongoing criminal defamation case against legislator Mahua Moitra as of March 2020.

Zee Media Corporation Limited (formerly Zee News Ltd.) was founded by Essel Group. and it was incorporated in August 27, 1999 as Zee Sports Ltd. it was a subsidiary of the Zee Telefilms Ltd (later renamed to Zee Entertainment Enterprises).The company was reincorporated on 27 May 2004, as Zee News Ltd.[6] It was demerged as a separate company of the Essel Group in 2006.[7] In 2013,[8] Zee News Ltd changed its name to Zee Media Corporation Limited.
